With their extraordinary haunting song 40 kōkako were translocated to Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari between 2015 & 2016.  Increasing the 'mauri' or 'lifeforce' of the maunga 'mountain'.  Surveys soon confirmed the population doubled making Maungatautari the fastest growing kōkako population in the country!
